COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Semi-truck drivers are expected to surround the South Carolina Statehouse on Wednesday afternoon as part of a protest.
The protest aims to draw attention to the concerns of truckers and small business operators.
“Truck the Statehouse," organized by the South Carolina Trucking Association, is set to take place at 2:15 p.m., when drivers plan to blast their horns in unison outside the State Capitol in Columbia.
“This isn’t a disruption. This is what it sounds like when the working class demands to be heard,” said SCTA President Rick Todd. “Truck drivers, warehouse workers, small business employees have waited long enough. It’s time for the legislature to put working people before trial lawyers and pass meaningful tort reform.”
South Carolina truckers and small business owners say rising insurance costs, excessive lawsuits, and legal barriers are threatening their livelihoods.

They say lawmakers have failed to act on reforms backed by voters, leaving the system favoring special interests.
Traffic in the Statehouse area may be affected during the demonstration.
